Undergraduate Students

Devashish Kashikar

Devashish is currently a senior year student pursuing his Undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering at UC Davis. After graduating, he plans to continue his education by pursuing his Master’s Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at UC Davis. He is excited to be working with Woodall’s team because he is very interested in semiconductor technology. His background includes computer programming in C++ and Python, circuit design, digital systems, and computer architecture. His current research focuses on developing a more reliable and efficient renewable energy source by designing a solar cell paired with a selective absorber for capturing heat energy. In his free time, he enjoys listening to Hip-Hop music, hiking, eating authentic Indian food and spending time with his friends.

Jose Higareda

Jose Higareda is currently a Bachelor’s student in Electrical Engineering with a focus on digital circuit design. His strong interest in finding new energy solutions and a curiosity of the workings of physical devices, as well a desire for new challenges led him to work on research for the improvement of solar technology. In his free time he enjoys going to play basketball with friends, tutoring in mathematics, and listening to music. His previous research work was on improving the efficiency of single crystal Zn-diffused AlGaAs solar cells grown through Liquid Phase Epitaxy, and has now moved on to try to increase the efficiency of poly-crystalline AlGaAs solar cells for cheaper production costs.

Philippe Arino

Philippe is currently a Bachelor’s student in Electrical and Computer Engineering at UC Davis and is expected to graduate in June of 2018. He is currently investigating the intrinsic electrical properties of undoped InAs on n-ZnSe. The purpose is to confirm theoretical ideas by preforming an experiment and measuring the results. The goal is to determine if this material acts as a robust Schottky device and to write a paper discussing the findings. This entails hands-on experience in photolithography, metal deposition, wet etching, and CV/IV measurements. If he is not in lab or doing school work, he climbs mountains and runs marathons. He is currently training to summit Mount Kilimanjaro in the summer of 2018.
